Role Purpose
To help keep Springs Community Grocery Store well stocked, organised and running smoothly, so that local people receive a welcoming, safe and reliable service.
The role is part-time and will involve working with volunteers, suppliers and community partners.
Main Responsibilities
Stock & Ordering
- Keep an eye on stock levels and order groceries when needed.
- Check deliveries and make sure stock is stored and rotated correctly.
- Check use-by dates and remove anything unsuitable.
- Help reduce food waste and unnecessary spending.
- Keep simple records of purchases, stock and wastage.
Suppliers & Donations
- Liaise with wholesalers, local shops and other organisations providing food.
- Arrange orders, collections and deliveries.
- Look for opportunities to obtain good-value or donated food.
Volunteers
- Help volunteers know what needs doing with stock and deliveries.
- Give clear, simple guidance on food storage and safety.
- Encourage a friendly, helpful and respectful team environment.
Collections & Deliveries
- Collect food and supplies from local suppliers and donors when required.
- Safely load, transport and unload goods.
- Make sure chilled and frozen food is handled appropriately.
General
- Help make sure the shop is tidy, well stocked and welcoming.
- Deal with straightforward stock or delivery problems and raise anything more serious with the Community Lead.
- Work in line with Springs Church policies and the values of dignity, compassion and respect.

Person Specification
We are looking for someone who is:
- Organised and reliable.
- Comfortable keeping simple records and dealing with orders.
- Practical and willing to get involved with moving and organising stock.
- Friendly and confident working with volunteers and suppliers.
- Able to work independently and solve straightforward problems.
- Committed to treating everyone with dignity and respect.
Essential:
- Full UK driving licence.
- Able to undertake local collections and deliveries.
- Willing to complete basic food hygiene training if required.
Desirable:
- Experience in retail, stock management, food distribution or volunteering.
- Experience working with fresh or frozen food.
Reporting To: Community Designated Lead
Contract and Hours
This is a fixed-term, lottery-funded position.
The role is expected to be approximately 6 hours per week, with some flexibility to meet the needs of the Grocery Store. It’s expected the candidate will be available on set days agreed with line manager to meet needs of Grocery Store.
The position will be reviewed annually in line with the availability of funding. Continued employment beyond each funding period will be subject to funding being available and the needs of the Grocery Store.
